Underwater Wonder at Maxell Aqua Park
Youngest is mesmerized by jellyfish
Maxell Aqua Park is one of our favorite indoor spots in Tokyo! Compact enough for a half-day trip but packed with impressive exhibits, it’s a great go-to for rainy days, hot summers, or any time you want some marine magic. We loved it so much we grabbed an annual pass—after just two visits, it pays for itself.
The Experience
The park is clearly laid out with numbered zones that guide you through the experience in a suggested order. You could speed through the whole thing in about an hour, but we recommend taking your time—each area is unique and beautifully designed. Plan your visit around the dolphin showtimes (posted at the entrance) as it’s absolutely worth catching. Feel free to skip ahead for the show and backtrack afterward.
At the entrance, little ones will love the interactive projection on the floor where fish scatter beneath their stomping feet. You’ll also get a look at the pirate ship ride on the second level—good to know in advance if your child meets the 120cm height requirement (500 yen).
Next is Magical Ground, home to the Dolphin Party Carousel (500 yen for kids 6 and older; younger kids are free with a paying adult). Even the seashell seats go up and down! The area is lit with seasonal LED displays—perfect for a quick photo.
From there, a hallway of colorful tropical fish leads you to the pirate ship boarding point. Around the corner is a tunnel-like blacklight area filled with 360° tanks—kids love spotting the glowing fish here.
The Coral Cafe Bar is a smart stop if you need a break before the dolphin show. The tables are actually fish tanks, giving kids something mesmerizing to look at while they enjoy soft drinks, ice cream, or popcorn. There’s also a coral tank built into the wall, although it’s a bit high for toddlers.
A few steps away is Jellyfish Rumble, a glowing blacklight gallery that’s always a hit. Our tip: bring a white scarf or accessory to give toddlers a bit of added visual fun.
Before the escalator, don’t miss the small but interactive baby fish exhibit. It’s more appealing for older kids who can engage with the displays.
At the top of the escalator is the Dolphin Stadium, where high-energy shows happen throughout the day. Grab a drink or snack and settle in—vending machines and a small concession stand are available. Sit in the front colored rows if you’re up for a splash! (Ponchos are sold here, but feel free to bring your own.)

Post-show, continue into Little Paradise, where smaller tanks offer up-close views of eels, stingrays, and even sharks—perfect for curious toddlers. The exit leads into the gift shop, so if you’re not in the market for souvenirs, prepare to redirect your little one’s gaze.
Backtrack to the Wonder Tube, a tunnel where sharks and rays swim overhead—always a jaw-dropper. Then explore the Aqua Jungle, a warm, dark zone filled with freshwater species, frogs, snakes, and even capybaras.
The final stretch is Wild Street, featuring two-level penguin viewing and close-up looks at sea lions, seals, and otters. Shows occasionally happen in the Friendly Square, a lovely outdoor space with seating and snacks.
