Escape to the Countryside at Mother Farm

Action shot of the oldest jumping in fields of Nemophilia

Just 1.5 hours from Tokyo by car, Mother Farm is a seasonal favorite for families, couples, and nature lovers alike. With its ever-changing landscape, fun events, and themed sections, no two visits are ever the same. Whether you’re glamping overnight or popping in for a day trip, the farm’s four zones—Animals, Fruit, Flowers, and an Amusement Park—offer something for everyone.

Bring cash, as most experiences and food purchases are cash-only. Credit cards are accepted at some major points, but it’s best to come prepared with coins and smaller bills. We also recommend packing a picnic mat—you’ll appreciate having a shady spot to relax on the hill near the arena.

The Experience

Animals
Scattered throughout the park, the animal activities are a must. From pig races to pony rides, cow milking to rabbit cuddles, there’s no shortage of adorable encounters. One of our favorites? The “Sheepdog and Their Friends in the Pasture” show.

Tip: Plan your route by checking the times for the pig race, sheepdog show, and cow milking right at the entrance. The pig race is near the park’s front, while the sheepdog show takes place mid-park near the food trucks—perfect for a lunch break. Cow milking is located past a tunnel near the entrance, making it a good start or end-point.

Farm Bus Tour
Want to see more of the farm without all the walking? Hop on the sightseeing bus.

Fruit Picking
Depending on the season, enjoy picking strawberries, blueberries, figs, sweet potatoes, or kiwis. We’ve only tried strawberry season so far, but let us know your favorites in the comments!

Flower Fields
The colorful fields change with the seasons. The largest and most iconic is located near the entrance—ideal for family photos or a relaxed stroll.

Amusement Park Fun
The amusement area is great for burning off extra energy. You can pay per ride or opt for an unlimited pass:

  • Unlimited rides: 2,800 yen

  • Set ticket (Admission + Unlimited rides): Adults 4,200 yen / Children 3,500 yen

  • Basic Admission: Adults 1,500 yen / Children 800 yen

Suggested Route

Start your day with a stroll through the flower fields and snap some photos. Then check the pig race lottery (ages 3–12) near the fence by the race area—listen carefully when numbers are called in Japanese! If you don’t win, there’s still lots to see.

Head uphill toward the arena for the sheepdog show. While you wait, you can:

  • Feed the sheep

  • Grab lunch or snacks from the nearby food trucks

  • Relax with a blanket on the grassy hill

  • Visit the horses for feeding or riding

If you’re fruit-picking, head to the orchard next. You might also want to try the 340m Zipline (for elementary-age kids and up, height/weight restrictions apply).

Wrap up your day at the amusement park before heading downhill to revisit the small animal areas. Cross through the tunnel to reach the cows—great for younger kids and those wanting to try cow milking.

Before leaving, don’t forget to stop by the gift shop for farm-fresh dairy, omiyage, and local products. And swing by the info desk for a Mother Farm stamp to add to your adventure book!
